3D Printing

Welcome to the 3D Printing section! Here you'll find projects, tips, and resources related to 3D printing.

My 3D Printer

• Ender 3
  My trusty Ender 3 v2 printer, which I use for all of my 3D printing projects.

My 3D Printing Settings

• Temps
  I typically use a print temperature of 210°C and a bed temperature of 60°C for PLA+ filament. For Silk PLA, I adjust the print temperature to around 200-205°C for a glossy finish.
• Speeds
  I print at a speed of 50mm/s for most prints, but I slow down to 30mm/s for detailed models or when using Silk PLA to ensure better quality. For the prints I need quickly, I can go up to 75mm/s, but I find that 50mm/s gives the best balance between speed and quality.
• Supports
  I use supports when necessary, especially for overhangs or complex geometries. I prefer tree supports for their efficiency and ease of removal.
• Infill
  I usually set the infill density to 20% for most prints, which provides a good balance of strength and material usage. For functional parts, I might increase it to 30% or more, depending on the requirements.
• Print Cooling
  I enable print cooling for PLA+ and Silk PLA to improve layer adhesion and surface finish. I typically set the fan speed to 100% after the first few layers.

My 3D Printing Software

• Cura
  Cura is a free, open-source 3D printing slicer developed by Ultimaker. It converts 3D models (usually in STL, OBJ, or 3MF format) into G-code instructions that a 3D printer can understand. Cura offers customizable print settings—like layer height, infill density, and print speed—alongside preset profiles for many printers and materials. It’s beginner-friendly with a simple interface, but also has advanced features for experienced users, making it one of the most popular slicers in the 3D printing community.
• MakerLab
  I use MakerLab for designing my 3D models. It's a great tool for creating custom designs and modifications.
• Tinkercad
  Tinkercad is a free, web-based 3D design and modeling tool created by Autodesk. It is designed for beginners and lets you easily create 3D models, electronics circuits, and even code-based designs through a simple drag-and-drop interface. Users can design objects for 3D printing, simulate electronics projects, and learn basic coding concepts—all without needing advanced CAD skills.
• Printables
  Printables is a community-driven platform where users can share and discover 3D printable models. It features a wide range of categories, from toys and gadgets to practical tools and art. Users can upload their designs, download others' creations, and engage with the community through comments and ratings. Printables is a great resource for finding inspiration and high-quality models for your 3D printing projects.
• OctoPrint
  OctoPrint is an open-source 3D printer management tool that allows you to control and monitor your 3D printer remotely. It provides a web interface to start, stop, and pause prints, view live camera feeds, and manage print jobs. OctoPrint supports plugins for additional features like print analytics, notifications, and more, making it a powerful companion for any 3D printing setup. I have mine set up with OctoEverywhere, which allows me to control my printer from anywhere with an internet connection.

• Benchy
  The Benchy is a popular test print in the 3D printing community, designed to showcase the capabilities of a 3D printer. It features various overhangs, bridges, and details that help identify potential issues with print quality. You can find more about it on Thingiverse.
• My Head
  I used MakerLab to design a 3D model of my head, which I then printed on my Ender 3. It was a fun project that helped me learn more about 3D modeling and printing.
• Trump on Mount Rushmore
  I found this model on Thingiverse and thought it would be a fun print. It features Donald Trump as one of the presidents on Mount Rushmore.
• Rocktopus
  Dwayne Johnson as an octopus! You can find more about it on Thingiverse.
• My YouTube Popup Sign
  I made this sign to promote my YouTube channel. I designed it with MakerLab and printed it on my Ender 3.

Overview of Bose 321

Essay on it

• I have recently acquired an original Bose 3-2-1 system from a friend. For being over 20 years old I have great opinions on it. It still works perfectly fine with no known maintenance done to it. It fits the era well with no HDMI port and no way to put more speakers in. Overall there are many things that are Good and Bad on this system.
• First, it sounds better than my built in TV speakers from 2023. The speakers in this system are crazy good for being 20 years old. I never realized how good TV sound could be until I got these. On Audio Reviews it says, “ The sound blew me away and changed my viewing experience coupled with a HD 240hrz TV I'm more than satisfied” (Smith). The base system has 2 5.25in subs in it. The 2 stereo speakers each have a 2.5in speaker in them. I hooked it up to my phone and played modern music and it sounded a lot better than out of my phones speakers. With the amazing base from the Acustimass system and the Loud and Clear stereo speakers, it sounds great.
• Second, I would like to point out a mystery I have. I was going to plug in the Video Out for it and thought it was going to be a composite port but it was not. This is what I saw. I put an RCA plug in there and it fit but no video was displayed because there was no outside ground o the port. It was just plastic. The first thing I tried was to cut the cable to short the ground from one of the other plugs outside and it worked. I was so confused why they did that. I did not want to leave it that way so I took off the alligator clip shorting it. I still wanted video though. I just continued setting up the other audio inputs to it until I plugged in the audio coming out of my tv and the video suddenly came up onto the screen. I was so confused how would plugging in audio out into the receiver make the video go up to the screen? Then I realized that because the outside of the RCA audio inputs are grounded than it takes that ground and uses it for the video. I think it is just a strange cost-cutting measure but I am unsure. I looked it up and found nothing. Nothing online about any port that looks like this. I decided to put the serial number into the Bose website and it found something. It said it was a Bose 3-2-1 system (which I knew) that was made in 1970 (which is not true). I loading the attached manual and it looked the same as the picture I found online. It had the RCA port. The only thing I can think is that this is some sort of developer model used for testing. That is only my conclusion because why else would there be some sort of unknown port.
• Another Positive on this system is the built in CD/DVD player. Having a built in player is so nice compared to running another video cord to the TV and audio cords to the receiver. It is a nice CD player with the ability to play Audio CD’s and Data CD’s. I have a CD with 139 MP3’s on it. The player has a limit of 89 songs that it can read. For most case-scenarios the 89 song cap is not an issue. The quality of the sound from the CD’s is great and sounds a lot better than running an external CD player through a 7.1 Surround system I have. The DVD player is just a normal player. It has nothing special to it. One nice addition would be some text on the screen when it is loading and/or playing CD’s. But, overall the CD/DVD player is a huge addition to the system.
• Yet another positive is the built in tuner. Well not a TV tuner it is an FM/AM tuner. I did not receive the antennas for it, but 2 paperclips in the back work just fine. According to John, a home improvement specialist, he says, “ Listening to CD’s and the AM/FM radio is just as satisfying. There is no drop off in quality compared to other units I’ve previously owned” (John). It comes in clear as day for an area with no major cities around. It sounds great listening to the radio on these high-quality speakers.
• One advantage is the amount of RCA inputs on the back. There are 3 sets of stereo inputs. I have one running from my TV’s headphone jack to it and one running to my phone. I still have one set of RCA ports incase I want to hook more up to it like a VCR. Yes, I still have a VCR. With the amount of adapters you can convert into RCA nowadays, you can hook anything you can think of up to this.
• This system is so easy to set up and use that anyone can do it. This took just 5 minutes for me to set up and it was ready to use. There is just one cable for power to the Acustimass and one between the Acustimass and the main system. The speakers are also remarkably simple. The plugs have a little L and R on them and the speakers don’t matter which side goes where. On Audio Karma it says, “ It's simple enough that my wife can operate it, and (as stated above) hookup is a snap. That alone makes it a worthwhile addition” (~Maxx). That proves how simple this thing is to operate. My Mom has a lot of trouble with our Denon system we have. It was also a lot more complex to set up. This Bose 3-2-1 system is just so easy to use.
• Overall this is a great system for anyone. The great sounding speakers, all the different media you can play, and the ease of use makes this a no brainer when choosing a system. Have you ever looked more into speaker systems?
